– CHILDREN PHOTOGRAPHY IN BEXLEYHEATH –
I love to photograph a child’s innocence and their playfulness and aim for both posed and natural photographs. There is nothing quite as special as capturing a natural smile and free spirited pose.
As a mother myself and having been a nursery nurse for over ten years I understand how to naturally engage children and make them feel comfortable in a new environment. I also have experience of working with children with Autism and ADD, and those with additional needs.
It is a good idea to prepare children for their photoshoot, telling them what to expect and telling them about how it will be a fun and exciting experience! Tell them about how they are going to meet me and that I have stickers to give for lovely big smiles. If you talk about it as though they are going on a play date they will look forward to the experience!
I have captured many professional portrait images for adults including – dating profiles, Social media & Linkedin profiles, professional images for the workplace & images for the pure joy of making memories!

FAQ
How do you photograph Toddlers & Young Children?
I have been a nursery nurse for over 10 years and have lots of experience working with toddlers and babies. Once a child starts walking, they start to develop their personality – something that shines through on camera. Toddlers are so inquisitive, and often wear their heart on their sleeve. How young children start to explore their world and how they react to different situations can be very different – just like adults. I like to take a very relaxed approach to toddler photography and like to spend a few minutes sitting with your child and playing, getting to know them and winning over their trust. Each shoot will be different – there is no ‘forced fun’ plan just natural play and smiles!
How do you photograph Older Children?
I am a mum myself of a 20 and 17 year old, so I have been through all the milestones and adventures you have with children. I have a natural rapport with children and I like to talk to them about what they like and have fun with them. This makes children feel at ease as some may come bounding into the studio excited and confident, whereas other children may be shy. All children are different and with my experience I will be able to gage their personality in a short time and work with them to get the best photos.
What if my child is ill?
This can happen and I ask you not to worry about it. All I ask is that you give me 48 hours notice where possible and we will re-arrange your photoshoot. You will not lose your money.
We are all living in a world with COVID19 at the moment, but we need to remember at certain times of the year it is really common for running noses, the odd scrape and other minor blemishes to be there on the day of the shoot, so don’t worry about that too much – often they can be removed in post-production. I want the shoot to be fun and successful – battling against an illness is no fun for anyone. Let’s take care of one another and be sensible!
What should I dress my children in?
From my experience of photographing families, I would suggest keeping things fairly neutral – not too smart, not too scruffy. Try to wear something you might normally wear, this way you will feel comfortable. The main rule is: Simple, non-patterned (no checks/ no stripes) clothes for everyone. Try to coordinate colours so that your colours work well as a group. You will see examples of this on my family gallery. If you have chosen an outdoor family photoshoot, choose clothes suitable for the weather and location. You can have up to 2 different outfit options during your photoshoot.
If you have opted for a baby or toddler themed photoshoot I will have some outfits for this. You can discuss this with me.
What do I need to do to prepare for the photoshoot?
Simply relax. Talk to your children about your upcoming family photoshoot as if you are all going on a play date. Try not to over-excite your children as stand offs and tantrums could come from building up something to young children and it not being as they imagined. A family photoshoot is fun, and I want to capture your natural family mannerisms as well as creating a posed look too.
What happens if my children mis-behave?
Firstly, I am a mum myself and have dealt with tantrums, talking children round and have worked with children of all ages. I have literally seen it all and will not be surprised by anything your child throws at me! I am very relaxed by nature, and I ask parents not to worry or be anxious about their children on the photoshoot.
If one of your children is not co-operating, we will deal with this at the time. I have never in all the years I have photographed had a child completely refuse to be photographed. I have many tricks up my sleeve!
